EMPRESS HOTEL PORTE-COCHERE

This project was the addition of a Porte Cochere to the Empress Hotel in Victoria.  This historical building is a dominant feature of the inner harbor yet it lacked a dominant entrance due to renovations to the building over the years.   JMAA architecture  was commissioned to create a Port Cochere to the main entrance in order to create a dominant entrance.  It was very important that the design fit the historic nature of the rest of this building.  In order to ensure the design passed through City approval JMAA architecture created a full 3D rendering of the new addition as well as the existing building.  This allowed for a easy visualization of how the new designed fit with the historical nature of the existing architecture.  The new addition draws the eye to the main entry while maintaining a harmonious relationship with the original Empress Hotel.
